EFCC detains Ex-Kogi gov, Wada over N23bn poll cash

Abuja—Former Kogi State governor, Idris Wada, was yesterday, grilled over his role in the sharing of N500 million of the N23 billion which former Petroleum Minister, Diezani Alison Madueke, reportedly handed Peoples Democratic Party to use and compromise the 2015 presidential election.
Mr. Wada, who arrived the EFCC headquarters in Abuja, around noon, was immediately ushered into the waiting hands of his interrogators, who asked him to explain what he collected the N500 million for and who benefitted from the cash, dispensed by a commercial bank.
Findings by Vanguard showed that Wada was still being quizzed by a team of EFCC operatives as at the time of going to press last night.
A top source in EFCC said that it was unlikely that the former governor would be released in the night.
“From the look of things the former governor would spend the night with our men because they really want to get answers from him on how he spend the huge cash taken from public till,” an EFCC operative said.
“Ex-governor Wada, who arrived our premises around noon, is still being interrogated by our operatives and he will spend the night with us to enable us to get to the roots of how the N500 million was disbursed by him,” the source said.
“In particular, the operatives are keen on knowing who the beneficiaries of the public funds are or whether he used the cash all by himself.”
Wada, who was the face of the PDP in the state at the time of the election, reportedly received the cash and disbursed as it pleased him and based on his calculations of the political atmosphere in the state at the time.
