OPEN LETTER TO NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF POLYTECHNIC STUDENTS(NAPS) AND NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIA STUDENTS (,NASS)

PROPOSED INDEFINITE STRIKE BY ASUP

It is no more a fallacy that ASUP after it's NEC meeting held early this month decided to give the Federal Government fourteen (14) days ultimatum with effect from on the 9th October,2017 after which they threatened to embark on an indefinite strike if their demands are not met.
Among all, some of the union's demands are payment of Consolidated Tertiary Institution Salary Scale (CONTISS 15) N20billion and short fall in salaries as at December 2016 N2, 637, 161,000billion and earned academic allowance N3, 221,487,017billion, HND and B.Sc dichotomy and others.

The 14 days ultimatum given to the FG by the Union ended yesterday 28th October, 2017 and there's no attempt to attend to their demands yet by the FG. Consequentially, the probability of the union embarking on an indefinite strike from Monday 30th October 2017 is almost one (1) (i.e almost certain).
At this junction, I'll borrow the words/idiom of the great sesquipedalian Igodomigodo of Edo state that  it is crystal clear like the Biblical mene mene teke urphasin(the writings on the wall) and visible even to the blind that this administration has no blueprint for educational development and vibrancy. It will be a dismal and an ignominious memento if an indefinite strike crumbles and cripples activities in Polytechnics again like it did in 2013.

It is on this note I'll urge the above mentioned unions, NANS as the sole representative and mouth piece of the entire Nigerian students and NAPS as representative of polytechnic students in Nigeria to come to our rescue and act as diplomatic intermediary in consulting and bringing  necessary quarters, ministries and bodies together to ensure they (ASUP and FG) sit and address issues before it will cause a turmoil, hubbub or brouhaha in the sector. we all know at the end of the day these officials will claim not to know the academic staffs union of polytechnic (ASUP) is on strike while our academic career is at stake.
Pls kindly act on it, we believe in you.
